How Does It Work?

To transplant a tree, move the loader and tree spade towards the tree. Open the gate completely and position the tree spade around the tree so that the tree is centered. Close the gates. Raise the loader’s front wheels off the ground by lowering the lift arms. Then, lower the rear stabilizers until the loader is level.

Using the loader tilt function, tilt the tree spade until the level light illuminates, indicating the attachment is positioned correctly. Click here to learn more about valve options. Begin digging only when the tree spade is level, loader is positioned with the rear stabilizers, and the gate is fully closed.

Tree Spade Features:

  • Adjustable Legs: Allow for digging five different root-ball sizes with one tree spade.
  • Blade Versatility: Truncated, modified and cone blade configurations are available, providing a wide variety of blades for any jobsite opportunity.
  • Bobcat Orange Color: Delivers better attachment visibility when digging.
  • Compact Design: Allows for attachment operation in confined areas without damaging nearby trees or landscaping.
  • Open Frame Design: Provides excellent visibility to the base of the tree.
  • Outside Frame Design: Featured on the 24- and 28-inch tree spade models, the outside frame design provides a wider space for the tree.
  • Overlapping Blades: Ensure clean root cutting and support of the root-ball.

Operating Tips:

  • Blade Penetration: Keep in mind that blade penetration may vary in different soil conditions. As soon as the blade starts to lift the tree spade off the ground, raise the blade slightly to remove pressure and continue to the next digging blade. Allowing the tree spade frame to remain on the ground during digging will help produce a quality root-ball.

Valve Options

7-Pin Attachment Control Device:

Control tree spade operation with fingertip controls located directly on the steering levers of the carrier.

Convertible Valve:

Control tree spade operation with fingertip controls on the steering levers or by using a pendant control box. The operation and control versatility of the convertible valve allows the tree spade to be operated on Bobcat-brand loaders as well as other brands.

Choosing the Right Blade Configuration

All tree spade models are available in truncated, modified, and cone blade configurations. The 44-inch model is the only exception, with the 44-inch available in modified and cone blade configurations. Different blade configurations give contractors the ability to select the right tree spade attachment for their specific machine and application.

Cone Blade:

Best for use in sandy soils. The cone blade is most often chosen for jobs involving removing trees to be transported and placed in new locations. Can also be used to place trees in baskets.

Modified Blade:

Best for use in loamy to sandy soils. The modified blade has a tower angle of 25 degrees, allowing the tree spade to place the removed tree directly into a basket.

Truncated Blade:

Best for use in loamy soils. The truncated blade has a tower angle of 22 degrees, delivering a better stand of the tree when placed in a basket.
