How do I choose the right loader?
Many factors can affect your loader purchase. What kind of work you perform? What kind of space restrictions are you likely to run into? Which loader offers the attachments you need? Could you be more productive with a particular type of loader, loader option or loader attachment?Tires vs. Tracks
Chances are if you've been looking at loaders you're familiar with skid steer loaders and compact track loaders, but did you know that an all wheel steer loader with selectable skid steer mode is available from Bobcat? moreTight Spaces?
When choosing a loader balancing width, height, and weight restrictions verses sheer power and performance is important. In general, the larger loader has more power, but remember to consider restrictions around:- Access to the site - typical gate widths, spacing between buildings, overhead restrictions, etc - don't forget that you need to turn around in tight spaces as well so loader length can be important as well
- Towing restrictions - do your drivers typically have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL)? Don't forget the weight of attachments and other tools & materials
- Don't necessarily plan on the worst case scenario - remember you can rent a smaller (or larger) loader for special projects If you typically have very tight areas or you're looking for a entry level machine think about a small skid steer loader or mini track loader - more
Should I look at a mini loader? Do I need a track loader?
