New Line of Brushcat Rotary Cutters Add Performance, Safety Features

West Fargo, ND — July 2006

Operators can now choose from a wider selection of tough rotary cutter attachments with the new line of Brushcat™ rotary cutter models introduced by Bobcat Company, a business of Ingersoll Rand, a diversified industrial firm.

The new Bobcat Brushcat rotary cutters can easily mulch small branches and saplings up to 3 inches in diameter and cut through the thickest grass and brush. The attachment comes in five models with varying auxiliary hydraulic flow capabilities to accommodate loaders with hydraulic flows ranging from 15 to 37 gpm. The new models feature a velocity fuse, a hydraulic pressure gauge, and a parallel linkage system for improved performance.

The attachment is available in both 60- and 72-inch widths and is approved for Bobcat skid-steer loaders (models S150 through S300), compact track loaders (models T180 through T300), the A300 all-wheel steer loader, and the Toolcat™ 5600 utility work machine.

As a hydraulic system safeguard, a velocity fuse was integrated into the valve on the standard- and high-flow models of the Brushcat rotary cutter. The velocity fuse shuts off the hydraulic flow to the rotary cutter if the hydraulic capacity of the motor is exceeded, protecting the drive motor from damage.

To improve efficiency, a hydraulic pressure gauge located on the Brushcat rotary cutter indicates the operating pressure range of the loader and is visible from the operator's seat. The pressure gauge ranges are signified by green, yellow, and red color zones. The Brushcat rotary cutters also have a parallel linkage system that allows the cutter to better traverse rough terrain. The system allows the cutting head of the attachment to move independent of the loader with up to 9 inches of vertical travel. If the 9-inch threshold is exceeded, the rear roller of the cutter will be lifted from the surfaces, causing the safety shut-off to engage.

The models also are equipped with a floating frame that has an oscillation of +/- 10 degrees and front rollers that eliminate the need to keep the front of the rotary cutter rolled back to minimize scalping. The single-spindle Brushcat rotary cutters have a standard 2-inch cutting height, but an optional dealer-installed kit can be added to increase the cutting height to 3 inches. In addition, they feature dual-edged cutting blades, and a standard front-wheel kit.
