Operator Training for Loader Backhoes

The purpose of this course is to impart rules and practices for the safe operation of Bobcat® loader backhoes. After participating in the course,
  • Loader Backhoe Safety Video
  • trainees will be able to:
    • Discuss the features and important characteristics of the Bobcat® Loader Backhoes.
    • Explain Rated Operating Capacity (ROC) of the loader and the Rated Lift Capacity (RLC) of the backhoe.
    • Explain how to check out the jobsite before you begin work with the loader or backhoe.
    • Explain why maintenance is an important factor for safe, efficient, and productive operation.
    • Explain the importance of using the seat belt for operator restraint.
    • Identify the controls and their functions.
    • Identify the machine's safety features and explain their importance.
    • Explain the steps of safe entry and exit.
    • Explain the reason for changing attachments and the use of the Bob-Tach system and X-Change™ system.
    • Know the fundamentals of safe and efficient maneuvering, traveling, and working with the loader and backhoe.
    • Explain the proper methods for transporting the loader backhoe.
    • Explain proper worksite safety when you are working with a loader backhoe.

    Course Overview

    1. Introduction
      1. Introduce Scope and Content
      2. Discuss Objectives
      3. Course consists of demonstration, video, hands-on, question and answer.
    2. Group Exercise One
      1. Overview - Describes the attributes of a loader backhoe.
      2. Load Capacity - concepts are presented.
      3. Walk Around.
      4. Component Identification.
      5. Video Presentation: Short video reviewing important safety and operation concepts.
    3. Group Exercise Two
      1. Demonstrate the daily checks.
      2. Describe how you should plan ahead for the job.
      3. Explain proper worksite safety when you are working with a loader backhoe.
      4. Demonstrate how a co-worker should approach the machine.
      5. Demonstrate the proper way to install and remove an attachment on the loader and backhoe.
      6. Explain the availability of approved attachments.
      7. Demonstrate how to fill and empty a loader bucket.
      8. Demonstrate how to level the ground using the float feature.
      9. Demonstrate how to excavate using the backhoe.
      10. Demonstrate how to carry a load.
      11. Demonstrate how to move the machine to another jobsite.
      12. Demonstrate how to transport the loader backhoe.
    4. Final Group Exercise
      1. Have the trainees travel a short distance, do a "figure-eight," and return to the starting point.
      2. Have trainees perform some simple tasks such as raising the lift arms and loading/emptying a bucket.
      3. Have the trainees change the seat from the loader position to the backhoe position and back again.
      4. Have the trainees excavate a trench using correct procedures to side-shift (if equipped) and move backwards.
      5. Have the trainees prepare to move the machine to another job location.
      6. Critique each trainee and suggest ways to improve.
    5. Review/Discussion Session
      1. Have trainees answer a series of review questions.
      2. Discuss trainees' responses.
