Depth Accuracy
The system provides guidance to the operator for a desired target depth with a slope from a known “bench” point.
Bobcat has updated its depth check system to help you dig more efficiently by measuring and tracking depth, grade and slope – all from the comfort of your excavator cab. Forget setup hassles and manual measurements. Leave behind the tape measure or "stick" receivers. Eliminate the need to set up laser equipment for smaller excavation jobs. The depth check system prevents under-digging and over-digging while keeping you on grade – reducing rework and saving valuable time.
New Depth Check System
Designed exclusively for your Bobcat excavator, depth check uses durable and accurate sensors and provides visual and audible alerts to your display as you reach a target depth, grade or slope. You’ll boost productivity, reduce over- and under-digging, and work more efficiently.

The Bobcat depth check system delivers real-time guidance for precise depths and slopes, starting from a known "bench" point. Operators can set targets and track progress on the integrated Bobcat display, and receive alerts as they approach, reach, or exceed their target. This streamlined workflow reduces waste, boosts efficiency, and provides a rapid return on investment – often within just 6 to 12 months.
The latest depth check system brings the ability to guide operators to a finished, sloped grade – an important enhancement for digging drainage or non-pressurized water line installations – with the same easy setup, on-the-fly measurement and pinpoint precision as with a level-grade dig.
Dual-direction target depth allows operators to measure both downward and upward from a reference point. This feature is particularly valuable for unique applications, such as step trenching for erosion control, adhering to ocean regulations, or creating tiered depths for specific environmental or structural requirements.
With a noticeably improved response and enhanced accuracy compared to the prior system, operators will achieve better, faster feedback when actively digging with the work group.
Improve your accuracy in specific side-sloped applications by setting or resetting the system to measure the deepest bucket edge. Choose to track the left, middle or right side of the bucket while you dig.
With the depth check system, you can achieve system accuracy that’s better than ever before – and dynamic measurements that are more exact – reducing the chance for rework and enabling operators to complete precision digging jobs faster and finalize depth and grade without manual steps.
New sensors and an additional sensor on the house of the excavator allow operators to see pitch and roll angles on the display, enhancing the operator’s ability to level the machine for grading applications.
Accurately and quickly “benchmark” the system for maximum operator efficiency and fast results when digging retaining walls or digging each corner of a structure to a specific elevation. Operators slowly pass the work group through the laser beam and then rebench with the push of a button, easily working around a jobsite’s changing terrain while you remain on the joysticks.

Simple, intuitive and easy to use, the operator depth check display is streamlined and optimized for faster, simpler setup and real-time position refresh.
Depth check sensors precisely track the position of the bucket’s teeth, enabling operators to set their desired digging depth and track against that benchmark in real time via their integrated Bobcat display. Audible alerts keep operators informed as they approach, reach or exceed the target.
Seamless integration into the machine’s 7-Inch Touch Display makes depth check simple to operate and eliminates the need for an additional display monitor. There are no cumbersome add-on displays. This durable, wired and seamless solution is not only easy to use, it eliminates the lag time and occasional signal loss of wireless options – and there are no batteries to replace.
The latest Bobcat compact excavator models are designed depth check ready – approved and ready to take advantage of its enhanced digging precision. Display functions are integrated with the depth check system and machine components are manufactured to quickly accept sensors and other components.

The depth check system isn’t just for your bucket. It can be used with many different attachment coupler interfaces and attachments for achieving an accurate depth, such as:
Augers
Quickly dig post holes to a desired depth with high precision.
Plate Compactors
Compact the jobsite evenly and thoroughly to the set depth and grade.
Trenchers
Dig pipes and utilities to exact depth – including sloped grades – and complete trenching tasks with next-level speed and accuracy.
The depth check system is compatible with many different attachment coupler interfaces. Bobcat X-Change and hydraulic pin grabber settings are pre-programmed, and custom coupler inputs can accommodate a wide range of other interfaces.
Expand your options on larger jobsites. The optional laser receiver offers operators greater flexibility to move around by benching off of a laser signal rather than a fixed grade point. It's compatible with optional CR600 and BLR2 laser receivers.
Use your excavator’s work group and bucket or attachment as a virtual tape measure to get an accurate and convenient, distance, depth and slope between two points. You can save measurements as a digging target for enhanced ease of operation.
With financing available for the depth check system, owners can attain new levels of digging efficiency and accuracy – and fit it conveniently within a monthly budget.
Use the depth check system for multiple applications, including:
Learn how to operate the Bobcat depth check system using just your bucket tooth or cutting edge to benchmark and maintain grade. This video walks you through digging to a consistent depth below ground and sustaining a sloped grade – all without the need for external equipment.
See how the Bobcat depth check system works with a laser to deliver precise, consistent grades. Learn how to benchmark off a laser beam, dig to flat or sloped targets, and reposition your machine while maintaining accuracy. Whether you're excavating footers or installing drainage, this video shows how to get the job done right – faster and with fewer errors.
This video walks you through the process of calibrating the Bobcat depth check system and fine-tuning measurements. Whether you’re setting up a new system or adjusting to account for attachment wear, learn how to ensure incredible accuracy every time you dig.
The Bobcat depth check system is a depth and grade control solution. It helps you achieve a precise depth, grade or slope without manually checking progress with a tape or stick receiver. It uses sensors on the boom, arm, bucket and body of your Bobcat excavator to track the position of your attachment and display real-time digging depth and slope on your excavator's 7-inch touchscreen display.
Audible and visual alerts let you know if you're approaching your preset depth or slope. They can also tell you if you've reached the target or surpassed it.
Depth check keeps you digging accurately whether you're working to a level grade or a defined slope. It reduces over- and under-digging, saves time, and improves productivity on a wide range of excavation and grading jobs.
To use the Bobcat depth check system, you use the in-cab display to set a target grade, depth or slope. You can establish your target and bench point with or without the help of a laser transmitter and receiver.
When operating without a laser system, you can establish a bench point by resting your bucket tooth or a flat cutting edge against the ground surface. When paired with a laser, you bench off the laser beam with a laser receiver that's mounted to the arm of your compact excavator.
As you dig, sensors track the boom, arm and bucket position, giving real-time depth and grade measurements and feedback. Audible and visual alerts let you know when you're approaching, reaching or exceeding your target grade.
The depth check system provides more than just mini excavator grade control. There are other convenient depth check features to help you be more efficient and accurate. For example, when your excavator is positioned on a cross slope, you change the "bucket focus" to track depth with the left, middle or right side of the attachment. With the included grade measure mode, you can also use your bucket attachment to measure distance, height or slope between two points.
