HOW TO CHOOSE A TELEHANDLER BUCKET
The right telehandler bucket comes down to what you move most, how much you need to carry per pass, and whether you need clamping control. Start with the material and the jobsite conditions, then choose the bucket designed to match.
General Purpose Bucket for Everyday Work
Pick the telehandler general purpose bucket when you need one bucket that can dig, grade, level and handle material across a variety of jobs. It’s a strong all-around option with good breakout force and a flat-top profile that helps you judge cutting-edge angle when grading or leveling.
Best for:
- Light-duty grading and leveling.
- Digging and general material handling.
- Mixed jobsite tasks where versatility matters.
Light Material Bucket for Volume
Go with the telehandler light material bucket when you’re moving bulky, lightweight material and want to carry more with fewer trips. The large capacity and high-back design help contain and push material, especially useful for snow, mulch and similar loads.
Best for:
- Snow removal and piling.
- Mulch, light fill and other low-density materials.
- Faster cleanup and transport with bigger loads per cycle.
Ag Grapple for Grabbing and Controlling Loads
Choose the telehandler grapple ag bucket when the job requires clamping and handling awkward agricultural material that won’t stay put in a standard bucket. The hydraulically controlled grapple opens and closes fast with a strong bite, and you can select bolt-on forged teeth (replaceable and well-suited for silage) or oxycut welded teeth (for added durability). It also features a spill guard, protected rear cylinders, and includes hoses for quicker setup.
Best for:
- Silage, manure, brush and other hard-to-handle ag material.
- Loading, stacking and moving where retention matters.
- Jobs that benefit from a bucket and grapple in one attachment.
Quick Checklist
- Material type: dense dirt/gravel vs. snow/mulch vs. ag material that needs clamping.
- Goal: breakout and grading control vs. maximum capacity vs. secure handling.
- Hydraulics: grapple bucket requires hydraulic control capability.
- Machine match: confirm compatibility with your Bobcat telehandler model.
Once you know what you’re moving and how you want to handle it, your Bobcat dealer can help you match the right bucket width, capacity and configuration so your telehandler is ready to work from day one.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a telehandler bucket?
A telehandler bucket is an attachment that lets a telehandler scoop, carry and dump bulk material. It’s built to match the reach and lift capacity of your Bobcat® telehandler so you can move dirt, gravel, snow, mulch and more with control from pickup to placement. Depending on the bucket style, you can prioritize all-around jobsite versatility, maximum volume per pass or added load control for tough, awkward material.
What is a telehandler bucket used for?
A telehandler bucket is used to scoop, carry and place material using the reach and lift capacity of your Bobcat telehandler. Depending on the bucket style, you can handle everyday jobs like light digging, grading and material moving, or step into high-volume work like snow removal and light material loading (mulch, silage, etc.).
What types of telehandler buckets are available?
The types of telehandler buckets available vary by model. The category includes three core options:
- Telehandler general purpose bucket: for light-duty digging, grading/leveling and general material handling.
- Telehandler light material bucket: higher-capacity bucket built for light, bulky materials like snow and mulch, with a design that helps support pushing and piling.
- Telehandler grapple ag bucket: adds a hydraulically controlled grapple to grip and move hard-to-handle agricultural materials.
Contact your local Bobcat dealer for further guidance and support for identifying the type of telehandler bucket for your machine.
What’s the advantage of a grapple bucket on a telehandler?
A grapple bucket gives you holding power, not just capacity. The hydraulic grapple lets you clamp down on loose, bulky or irregular material so you can move it with better control and less spill. It’s especially useful in agricultural work where you’re handling hard-to-manage piles, and it can be configured with bolt-on forged teeth (replaceable and silage-friendly) or welded teeth for durability.
Will skid-steer loader buckets fit my Bobcat telehandler?
A skid-steer bucket will not necessarily fit a Bobcat telehandler. It depends on your model’s attachment interface. Bobcat TL519 and TL623 telehandlers use the Bob-Tach® mounting system, so many Bobcat skid-steer loader and compact track loader buckets can be used on those machines. Bobcat TL723 and TL923 telehandlers use a telehandler-specific interface, which requires telehandler buckets designed for that mounting system – those buckets won’t interchange with other Bobcat carriers.
Always confirm attachment compatibility for your specific machine, or check with your Bobcat dealer to match the right bucket.
