Millimetre Precision: Bobcat T86 Compact Track Loaders Deliver World-Class Equestrian Surfaces

At a premier equestrian centre in A Coruña, Galicia, host to international show jumping competitions, the quality of the surface determines the safety and performance of horse and rider. The complex features a 65 x 110 m outdoor competition arena, a 35 x 70 m warm-up area, multiple indoor riding halls, and a galloping track.

Building and maintaining these specialized facilities is the core expertise of Geolastic, a Spanish firm with over 20 years of experience crafting competition surfaces across Spain, Argentina, and Colombia.

Sub-Surface Tech and Laser-Guided Accuracy

Geolastic relies on an advanced sub-sand absorption drainage system known as "EBB and Flow." To maintain constant moisture and optimal footing, the system requires an exact 15 cm layer of sand and textile fibers across thousands of square metres. Any unevenness can create mounds or puddles, compromising arena performance.

Fifteen years ago, we were using light articulated loaders. The work was significantly harder and far less precise. Discovering Bobcat compact track loaders completely transformed how we work.

Today, Geolastic achieves millimetre-level accuracy in a fraction of the time using Bobcat Compact Track Loaders paired with Bobcat Grader attachments fitted with laser transmitters and receivers. The automated system adjusts the grader blade dynamically, maintaining accuracy within +/- 6 mm. The operator simply guides the loader along the grid while the system maintains the exact required grade.

Geolastic utilizes both 244 cm and 274 cm Bobcat Grader attachments to match varying arena dimensions.

To handle growing project demands, Geolastic progressively evolved its fleet from the Bobcat T590 to the T66, and recently added two top-of-the-range Bobcat T86 Compact Track Loaders through official Galician dealer Talleres Turquino.

The T86 provides exceptional hydraulic capability, featuring Bobcat Super Flow technology that delivers 150 l/min. This extra hydraulic capacity proves crucial when running bedder attachments to distribute textile fibers evenly across the arena footing.

The increase in hydraulic output on the T86 compared to standard high-flow systems (139 l/min) is remarkable. That extra 20 l/min allows us to cover the same surface area much faster. Spreading textile fibers with the T86 saves us up to 30% in working time and fuel.
