Compact Excavator / Uptime Protection Features

Protection Technology – Compact Excavators

Your excavator is going to be working in tough conditions - dirt, gravel, moisture, and rough terrain. You cannot afford a major mechanical failure in the middle of your busy season, or any time of the year. Fortunately, Bobcat excavators are built to minimize downtime with multiple protection features.

Electronic Protection

Quality electrical systems are essential for any machine that works in harsh conditions. Bobcat electronics meet or exceed military IP67 requirements for sealing, moisture, shock and vibration. All the controls and electrical systems are engineered with more watertight, corrosion-resistant connectors than other manufacturers. These extra steps ensure a simple connector issue won’t slow you down on the job.

Automatic Glow Plugs

Automatic glow plugs warm the fuel mixture within the engine when it is started at a cooler temperature. This leads to easier starts and longer life for the engine and starter.

Battery Run-Down Protection

Battery run-down protection prevents battery discharge due to vandalism or an operator who forgets to turn off lights. The lighting circuit automatically shuts down to prevent accidental battery discharge.

Smart Diagnostics

Keep your Bobcat® compact excavator on the job – and out of the shop – with smart diagnostic features. Machine Shutdown Protection Most Bobcat excavators come standard with automatic shutdown that tracks engine coolant temperature, engine oil pressure, hydraulic oil temperature and other functions. The system prevents catastrophic engine failure and shuts the machine down if necessary – lessening the chance of damage to the engine or hydraulic components. Diagnostics Bobcat provides on-board diagnostics to efficiently troubleshoot problems in the field or prevent them before they occur – reducing downtime for you.

Cold Weather Protection

Anytime the engine oil temperature is below its normal operating range, the machine temporarily increases engine idle speed (rpm) to help the engine oil reach its operating temperature faster. The machine also temporarily limits the maximum engine speed (rpm) to prevent premature component wear or failure. Depending on the engine oil temperature, the protection may activate for several seconds to a few minutes. The word “cold” displays on the instrument panel until the protection system deactivates.
