Look for signs of fluid leaks around the machine, including hydraulic lines and engine components. Repair or replace damaged components as needed. 

For skid-steers, make sure the tires are properly inflated and free of punctures. For compact track loaders, check the track tension to prevent premature wear on the undercarriage components.

Check the attachment couplers for signs of wear, such as loose pieces, leaky hoses or damaged components. Make sure the attachment you are using securely locks into place.

Inspect drive motors for any signs of wear. Regular maintenance helps maintain optimal performance and prevent breakdowns. 

Check belts for proper tension and inspect them for wear or cracks. Replace any worn or damaged belts promptly to avoid equipment failure. 

Make sure that engine oil, hydraulic oil and coolant levels are within the manufacturer’s recommended ranges. You can find these in your operation and maintenance manual. 

Change the oil and filters according to the service schedule to keep the engine lubricated and running smoothly. Dirty oil increases the risk of engine wear and reduced performance. Follow the manufacturer’s timeline for replacing hydraulic oil and filters to protect the system from contaminants. Also consult the maintenance guidelines on air and fuel filter replacement. Replace as directed to ensure proper engine performance and fuel efficiency. Clogged filters can restrict airflow and fuel flow, leading to engine issues.

Check the battery terminals for corrosion and ensure the battery is adequately charged. If the battery shows signs of wear or poor performance, replace it to avoid starting issues. 

Keep tires inflated to the pressure specified by the manufacturer and regularly inspect them for cuts, puncture marks and uneven wear. 

Since compact track loaders are often used in challenging conditions like muddy, wet or rocky terrain, clean any debris from the tracks and undercarriage at the end of each day to prevent premature wear.  

Proper cleaning and storage practices extend a compact track loader or skid-steer’s lifespan and helps maintain resale value. Safeguard your equipment from damage during periods of little to no use by taking some simple steps. When storing your machine for the offseason or between jobs, clean with proper tools, focusing on trouble areas and performing inspections as you go. Prep the loader for storage by performing outstanding maintenance, greasing moving parts, adding fuel stabilizer, replacing engine oil, and disconnecting the battery. In addition, you should lower all hydraulics attachments to the ground and check the pressure on tires and tension on tracks.

Regularly inspect the electrical system, including wiring and connections, for signs of wear or damage. Ensure all lights and indicators are functioning correctly. 

Make sure coolant levels meet the manufacturer’s recommendations and inspect the radiator for any obstructions or leaks. A properly functioning cooling system prevents overheating and protects the engine from damage. 

Lubricate pivot points regularly to ensure smooth movement and reduce wear on pins and bushings.

Using the correct fluids for cold weather conditions will keep your loader running smoothly.  

The engine oil viscosity needs to match the temperature outside.

Bobcat Proven Performance: This value-focused hydraulic fluid is intended for use in non-current equipment models, dyed orange to assist in identification.  

As temperatures drop, the pressure in your tires does too. Inflate the tires to the manufacturer's recommended PSI to ensure optimal performance.

Make sure your battery is fully charged and check for wear or corrosion on wires and connections. Conduct a load test before your first winter project to prevent issues that could leave you without your loader when you need it most. 

Inspect your loader’s door and window seals to avoid any heat loss. Test the heating and defrosting systems to see if they work properly. These features, together with a heated seat, will keep you comfortable during long, cold days at the worksite. 

To ensure your winter-specific attachments are well-maintained, inspect hoses, cylinders, guards, cutting blades, and edges for any signs of wear or damage. Check fluid levels for lubrication, especially since most of these attachments might have been in storage since last winter.
