Bobcat Classic vs. Pro Loaders: What Buyers Need to Know

Published on October 2, 2026

Introduction

Bobcat Pro and Classic loaders are two categories within the skid-steer loader and compact track loader lineup. Classic loaders deliver proven performance, straightforward operation and competitive pricing. Pro loaders combine improved controllability with premium comfort and integrated technology.

Together, they give operators more choice in how their machine feels, functions and fits their work. This article compares the features that matter most to operators: controls, technology, comfort, hydraulics, attachments and more - to help you choose between Classic and Pro.

What Is a Classic Loader?

Classic loaders evolve from Bobcat's legendary M-Series platform and deliver proven performance and straightforward operation at a competitive price point. The refreshed lineup adds updated styling, an upgraded deluxe display and three simplified package choices.

Classic vs. Pro Loaders — Controls

Both Classic and Pro loaders are available with Selectable Joystick Controls (hand-only system) or hand-and-foot controls. When it comes to hand-and-foot controls, Classic’s mechanical design allows operators to feel the machine's feedback through the hand levers and foot pedals, whereas Pro’s electronic controls use electronically controlled inputs for adjustable response and greater precision. Whether Selectable Joystick Controls or hand-and-foot controls, options vary by model and package.

Pro Drive Modes

A key Pro distinction with Selectable Joystick Controls is the ability to adjust how the loader responds to your control inputs. Choose from four selectable drive modes based on how smooth or responsive you want the machine to feel:

  • Balanced: Provides the smoothest response
  • Agile: Delivers the familiar factory-default response
  • Dynamic: Reacts more quickly to control input
  • Charged: Provides the most immediate response

You can try each mode and choose the response that feels most natural. If more than one person regularly runs the loader, each person can select a mode that better matches individual preferences/experience level or change the drive mode based on the task at hand. See all operator controls.

Comparing Classic vs. Pro — Technology

Classic loaders are built with straightforward operation in mind, with features like an upgraded deluxe display (one of two displays offered in Bobcat’s loader lineup). It provides access to essential machine information and settings through a simple interface. With the Comfort Plus package, an integrated rear view camera adds another view behind the machine without requiring a separate display.

Pro loaders feature advanced technology like an 8-inch touch display that brings machine information, settings and the standard rear view camera together in one interface. Depending on the selected package, infotainment adds Bluetooth®, integrated AM/FM radio, AirCode and support for additional camera views** to the display experience. Jobsite Companion is available with the Pro Advanced package, providing press-to-talk access to supported machine functions and information. These include job-cost information, optimized attachment settings, automated machine functions and plain-language guidance about machine features and fault codes.

**Available detection systems are operator-assist technologies and do not replace safe operating practices, direct observation or awareness of people and obstacles around the machine.

Comparing Classic vs. Pro: Comfort

Comfort is shaped by more than the seat alone. The cab environment, temperature control, operator space, view and ride quality can all affect how the machine feels during a long workday. Pro and Classic loaders offer open and enclosed cab configurations, with heating and air conditioning available. Specific comfort features vary by model, package and configuration.

Classic loaders provide a familiar cab designed to help you get comfortable and get to work. A vinyl suspension seat is standard, while select packages offer a heated cloth air-ride seat for added support and reduced vibration. Enclosed cabs help manage temperature, dust and noise, while optional hands-free Bluetooth® radio allows operators to connect their phone to take calls and listen to music. To improve ride quality on rough surfaces, operators can choose available Automatic Ride Control or the T770’s optional roller suspension undercarriage on select configurations.

Pro loaders build on those fundamentals with a one-piece enclosed cab and refreshed interior featuring additional storage, a movable phone holder and USB and USB-C charging ports. Select packages add a heated high-back cloth air-ride seat for more comfort, while features like clear-side enclosures and slimmer cast-steel lift arms provide more open views around the machine. On the T66-2, T76-2 and T86-2 compact track loaders, an optional 5-Link torsion suspension undercarriage helps reduce vibration, rocking and pitching when traveling over uneven terrain or carrying loads.

Both Classic and Pro loaders are designed to help keep work moving, starting with Bobcat engines that meet emissions requirements without a diesel particulate filter. By eliminating DPF regeneration and related maintenance, this shared design helps reduce potential interruptions to the workday. As operating demands increase, a loader's ability to manage heat and debris becomes more important, and that is where the cooling systems of Classic and Pro begin to differ.

Classic loaders use a balanced dual-path cooling system designed for general-purpose work, with features that help maintain airflow and manage debris in typical operating conditions. A rear tailgate and tip-up cab provide access for routine service and maintenance. Machine IQ telematics provides remote visibility to your machine's health, location and security, with availability varying by model and configuration.

Pro loaders use a higher-capacity cooling system (than Classic loaders) designed for demanding applications, frequent high-flow attachment use and longer work periods. A larger cooling package, high-capacity radiator and variable-speed fan help manage heat and maintain more consistent performance under load. Based on R-Series feedback, Pro loaders also include a redesigned electrical system with improved sealing, harness protection and routing to help reduce exposure to water, debris and wear. Routine checks and troubleshooting are also easier thanks to improved access to key maintenance points and clearer display-based diagnostics. Machine IQ comes factory-installed across the Pro loader lineup.

Consider how often the loader will be used, how long powered attachments will typically operate, the conditions in which the machine will work and whether remote machine visibility is important to your operation when deciding which uptime features best fit your needs.

Bobcat Classic and Pro loaders can operate many of the same attachments, but attachment-support features differ.

Classic Loaders Attachment Compatibility

Classic loaders offer standard-flow hydraulics for common attachments used for digging, lifting and grading, with high-flow hydraulics available on select models for more demanding attachments such as planers and snowblowers. Power Bob-Tach® and the 7-pin attachment control device are available depending on the model and package.

Pro Loaders Attachment Compatibility

Pro loaders include both features as standard across the lineup, supporting in-cab non-hydraulic attachment changes when used according to the machine and attachment operating instructions. Operators should always confirm that the attachment is properly secured before use.

Pro loaders also offer standard- and high-flow hydraulics, while the S86-2 and T86-2 add available super-flow hydraulics for specialized, power-intensive attachments.

When choosing a loader, compare the flow, pressure and electrical requirements of the attachments you plan to use with the capabilities of the specific model and configuration. The loader category alone does not determine attachment compatibility. Confirm that the specific loader, attachment and configuration are approved for use and follow all applicable operating instructions and load limitations. See all hydraulic features.
